
I never set out to lose 140 pounds, although I surely needed to. I told myself all the lies that kept me unhealthy. That chronic health issues ran in my family, I was big boned, and had slow metabolism. I thought I was always hungry, yet in truth I was rarely hungry. I told myself I was eating healthy but I really wasn’t. That I didn’t have time to exercise and so on… all the lies that kept me unhealthy (and fat)! I had all the bad habits to support that unhealthy lifestyle. And my brain believed every bit of it.
You see, my brain never figured out that things weren’t the way they were supposed to be in my body. But my body finally took charge by hitting me over the head with a proverbial two-by-four.
A “medical malfunction” in my body was my wake-up call. It ultimately saved my life but it could have killed me. Something clicked inside of me and everything was different this time. I knew that it was time to stop telling myself all those lies. I committed to myself that I would get healthy physically and mentally. It all started with a food detox which led me to eating fresh whole foods, moving my body more and tuning into myself to discover the authentic “me” that had been suppressed for so many years.
So who am I? Among other things, I’m an expert at losing weight as I’ve been doing it most of my life. I know exactly what to do. I am one of those people who tried just about every diet invented in my lifetime. And you know what? All of them worked at some level. I lost weight over and over again…and I gained all the weight back (and then some), over and over again. Yes, I lost weight. So technically those diets delivered what they said they’d deliver in terms of diet promises. But I never truly got or felt healthy. My cravings for unhealthy food was insatiable. I felt so deprived of eating the foods I loved, and there was no way I could eat the way those diets prescribed for the rest of my life. So I gave up! And just like that, I topped out at a whopping 270 pounds.
But this time it really is different! I finally figured out what to do to get and stay healthy after 40+ years of trying and failing. I spent a good portion of my life years untangling the mountain of information out there around healthy eating, moving my body and wellness in general and after much trial and failure, I finally found something that worked and has been easily sustainable for me for almost a decade.
What a wonderful journey…one that changed me and my life in so many ways, it’s astonishing!
I will share my story with you over time via this website and blog and with the intent of serving and helping you. My hope is to inspire you, so that you don’t need to experience a very painful, life threatening “medical malfunction” and many years of unpacking information about health and wellness to make this kind of significant change in your life. Mine is a story beyond food and exercise, although those things are a huge part of it. But there’s waaaaay more to it than that.
