Three Weeks Without Red Light Therapy-The Proof Was Powerful

Awhile back, I wrote an article introducing red light therapy. My intention was to try to simplify a rather complex subject. Many readers told me it was helpful, and straightforward. That was music to my ears!

I thought I had a pretty good handle on how much it helped me… until I decided to throw a brick at my life.I won’t go into the details, but suffice it to say, in the last few weeks, everything that could get chaotic did. Big decisions. Big changes.

Boxes everywhere. Things disappearing that absolutely should not disappear. And somewhere in that mess, my red light routine got shoved straight into the witness protection program.

Not intentionally — I wasn’t rebelling against wellness. I just lost the power cord for my portable mask. And then my full size panels got shoved into storage. And then life snowballed into a situation where even if I wanted to use either of my red light devices, I couldn’t.

Three full weeks. No red light therapy. At first, I thought, “Eh, I’ll be fine.”

Adorable, really. Not!

Because here’s the truth: you don’t realize how much something is helping you until you stop doing it.

The very first place I noticed it? My skin.

It wasn’t bad — it just wasn’t good like it normally is. The glow dulled. The texture shifted. My face looked a little more tired, a little less vibrant. But I chalked it up to stress, exhaustion, and the giant transition I was in the middle of. Honestly, it made perfect sense. Everything felt a little “off,” so why wouldn’t my skin?

But then the rest of my body chimed in. A little more stiffness. A little more discomfort in my joints. Muscles that normally recover quickly suddenly acting dramatic. My mood starting to lean a little sideways. Again, I blamed the stress and a lot of heavy lifting. What else would I blame?

It was subtle — but it was real.

Then I found my panels in storage, tracked down the rogue power cord, plugged everything back in, and restarted my routine. And that’s when the lightbulb went off in my head — actually, the red lightbulb.

All the things I’d been feeling, all the shifts I’d been blaming on stress? They didn’t magically disappear, but after just a few days back under the red lights, my body started to come back online. Not that I had been in a bad way, but I knew I could feel better than I did.

Within a few days, my skin perked back up — smoother, brighter, more alive. And then the rest of my body caught up. Less stiffness. Fewer aches. Better mood. Faster recovery. That grounded, aligned feeling I didn’t even realize I was missing came rushing back.

That’s when it clicked: red light therapy wasn’t some extra fluff in my routine. It was more like the quiet backstage crew running the whole production — the people you never see, who keep everything functioning, flowing, and lit up… and the second they disappear, the whole show starts glitching.

Once everything was plugged back in, it was like my whole system sighed in relief.

I’m back to my daily red light ritual now, and I don’t plan on letting it slip again… unless life hides my power cord just to keep me humble. And honestly, sometimes the universe has its own subtle way of showing us the importance of something we didn’t fully appreciate while we had it. This was definitely one of those times.

Here’s the part that matters — and it’s for you just as much as it’s for me:

You don’t always recognize the value of a wellness practice while you have it.

You recognize it when it’s gone. That’s when the contrast hits. That’s when the dots connect. That’s when you stop asking, “Is this even working?” and start saying, “Oh… it was working. A lot.”

If you want more of the science and “how it works” behind red light therapy, you can head over to my original article — it breaks everything down without the jargon. Get that article HERE.

But if you’re curious about the bigger story behind all of this — the journey that got me here — that’s where my book, The Awakened Body, comes in. It’s not about red light therapy specifically. It’s about the transformation that made me care about things like this in the first place. The mindset shifts. The breakthroughs. The setbacks. The real work. The inner battles. The small wins that build momentum.

And the massive changes that followed.

And if you’re reading all of this thinking, “I want to feel better… I just don’t know where to start,” my book was written for you. Click HERE to jump to the book page.
